Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Piroxicam Safe To Take For Arthritis Joint Pain?
I am a type 2 diabetic currently taking Metformin (850 mg) 3 times daily; Januvia (100 mg) once daily; Azor (5-40 mg) once daily; simvastatin (10 mg) once daily; Lantus (insulin - 15 units) at bedtime. My morning fasting glucose runs between 85 to 95. My current A1C is 6.2. I have bi-lateral total hip replacements. I walk 2 miles/day at least 6 days a week, and have been doing 60 minutes of vigorous water aerobics 7 days a week all summer. I would like to know if it is feasible to add Piroxicam (20 mg) for arthritis joint pain.
According to the history of your comorbidities yes it is asafe. If the pain is dominated with it than no problem you can use it safely. If not probably steroids are needed which have side effects on diabetes also. Please first discuss this with your treating doctor.
