Is Plan B A Safe Contraceptive Option And How Does It Work?

My girlfriend has a Factor V Leiden mutation. We are in kind of a pinch right now and need information on Plan B. She cannot take regular birth control, but I know Plan B is a different hormone. She is terrified of having an embolism or something. Is Plan B a massive dose of something, or just a different mechanism of action?

Hi
The regular contraceptive pill contains two hormones - oestrogen and progesterone. The oestrogen is the hormone which can cause embolism and is to be totally avoided by your girlfriend. Progesterone is safer for her. Their are progesterone only pill available which provide regular contraception. Plan B is a emergency contraceptive which is taken after unsafe sex. It basically contains higher doses of progesterone. As it does not contain oestrogen it can be taken by her. The safest contraception for her would be Cu T which would also give her regular contraception.
Thanks
