Is Prednisolone Advisable Before And After Air Travel?

I have GCA......now just over two years......I have reduced from 60 mg of dteroids to my current 9mg level and my test results are good. My consultant says if the results remain the same or improve flying abroad will be ok but that I should take 20mg predisonole before flying and when returning.....is he right....I just want a second opinion. Thank you.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

Prednisolone is not a procoagulant or anticoagulant so it should not have effect on airtravel. Giant cell arteritis is an inflammatory condition that requires steroids as treatment.

The disease has hyper viscosity syndrome which causes blood thickening so aspirin is OK.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Omer
