I was diagnosed with mild bronchiectasis a few months ago and was treated with prednisone - 25mg for the first week, then reduced to half that dose for another week. Symptoms settled but a few weeks later caught a cold and bronchiectasis symptoms returned with constant coughing and thick sticky mucous. At times the mucous stuck in my throat over my vocal cords and would not dislodge for hours. Was again treated with prednisone this time 25mg for one week, half that for another week, then 5mg for 3-4 weeks. That was about s month ago. About 10 days ago I caught another bad cold from someone which has again resulted in constant coughing. I am drinking plenty of fluids, mainly water, so the mucous now is manly clear and seems to come up fairly easily but my cough is persistent with very little relief. I am not very keen to have further prednisone treatment and wondered whether there was anything else I could do. Will recurrent cold infections cause the bronchiectasis to get worse? The coughing wears me down as it disrupts my sleep and also inhibits what I do. Would appreciate any advice you can give. Many thanks Erica Saville
