Is Prilosec The Right Medicine For Burning Abdominal Pain?
Hi, I am a 39 ur old female and I ve been having pains in the upper right quadrant of my stomach. I have had my gallbladder removed and have had gastric bypass surgery 11 yrs ago. The pain feels more like a nagging burning pain. It has been symptomatic now for approx two wks this time but has been a problem for about a year now on and off. I ve taken prilosec 40 mgs and that seems to be the only OTC or prescription that has worked. I don t have any prilosec is there anything else that would possibly work?
Prilosec contains omeprazole which suppresses acid production in the stomach and hence relieves stomach pain quite well. There are a number of alternatives that work similarly like lansoprazole (selanz sr), nexium, protium and many more. They are all from the same group called PPI.
While there use is quite good for stomach pain for a few weeks; prolonged use of them is discouraged and only be done after your doctor advice.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman,
