Is Rabies Injection Advisable After Being Scratched By A Monkey?

Yesterday a monkey scracthes in left leg ankle of my younger brother, immediately I washed it with the water & for precaution within 3-4 hrs a injection of Titnus Has been given to him.. Is he need rabies injection as well? The scratch mark is not clearly visible it s very minor. Pls help.

Yes, rabies prophylaxis is recommended for monkey bite also. One dose of the vaccine is administered on days 0, 3, 7, 14 and 30 intramuscularly. Injections must be given into the deltoid region or, in small children, into the anterolateral area of the thigh. It is not given in gluteal region. Minor scratch without bleeding is classified as category 2 according to WHO classification and immediate vaccination is recommended for such injury.
