Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Reclast Infusion Advisable For An Elderly Person?
I have been reading about Reclast. I m scheduled for this IV in two days. Out of about 350 comments, it looks like 2/3rd s of them are very negative. I have an immune system problem. ITP (Platelets). I have just recovered (almost) from Shingles. I m 77 years old. Bone density test was not good. Do you recommend the IV and what % of a chance do I have for a positive outcome?
Yes, it is advisable. Bisphosphonates and strontium ranelate are good choices for first- or second-line treatment, while for the time being parathyroid hormone should only be used for the second-line treatment of osteoporosis in the elderly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
