Is Remeron Preferable Over Megace For Restoring Appetite?

My mothers healthcare facility is giving her Remeron, when I asked them to give her Megace. She has stopped eating about a week ago, & I would like to know if Remeron is the same thing as Megace, or if Remeron is used to restore an appetite.
Thanks

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. The drugs Remeron and Megace both are two different drugs and have no relation. Megace is Megestrol Acetate and the drug is a steroid derivative. The drug helps to increase weight but its use is associated with a lot of side effects. Remeron is is Mirtazapine and the drug is basically an antidepressant drug. The drug helps to improve appetite and thus cause significant gain in weight. The drug is safe to use and is free of serious side effects. The drug can be used for restoring appetite and no risk in giving her the drug. You can discuss with her doctors for both of these drugs.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
