Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, My 17 months old daughter s weight wasn t increasing as req. so doc did tuberculin skin test and it came positive. But her chest X-ray was negative. Doc gave rifampin for a year. But after a month of medication her blood test was done n her sgpt raised to 998, so doc asked to stop the medicine for few weeks. My question is will my child be free of this disease ? Will resuming the medicine not cause sgpt to rise again? Plz help.
SGPT may rise while on treatment with a few drugs for tuberculosis. When liver enzymes (SGPT) increase it is important to stop the offending drug for a while to allow the liver to recover.
It may happen that after the drug is reintroduced the liver might react again, so it is important to monitor your daughter with the liver tests when she restarts the drug.
It is of paramount importance that you follow the instructions of the doctor on the treatments for tuberculosis and the needed drugs and their doses and send her for the regular follow ups as recommended.
I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General and Family Physician
