Is STD Transmission Possible Despite Protected Interourse?

Hi Doctor, yesterday I had protected sex with a prostitute. The condom was high quality & was intact during the whole performance. I didn t try any experimental positions, it was plain missionary & my body made no contact with her private parts. However I broke down when I came back home & have been feeling dramatically guilty. I rushed home, took a bath, washed my private parts with dettol but I felt itchy on my scrotum yesterday evening & I m feeling mildly itchy on random places in my body today. Is there any test that I should do to confirm my health status? What are the chances of me being infected?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Barrier methods like use of condoms offer considerably good protection (more than 90%) against STDs. You need not to be worried if your body has not come in contact with body fluids like vaginal secretions. What itching feeling you are having could be due to some allergic reaction and might not be due to STD.

Kindly take Tablet. Levocetirizine to overcome itching. Apply moisturizer cream over the affected area at bedtime. In case you are still doubtful about being contacted with STD, kindly get your blood checked for HIV and STD status after 2 weeks and again after 3 months.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S, General & Family Physician
