Hello - I had been having cough for a long time and I visited a doctor after getting my chest xray and ESR report done.He conducted PFT Test and said that I had Asthama. He also prescribed Deriphyllin, Allegra and Symbicort Inhaler. My concern is - Is Deriphllin habit forming? Is Salbutamol inhaler a better option? How can I sent scanned copy of PFT test and the prescription to you for your validation?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. What prescription you have been given after evaluation by means of Chest X-ray, ESR and pulmonary function test (PFT) for asthma seems to be right. You can start taking Deriphyllin now as prescribed and its dosage can be reviewed after some time during your follow-up visits. Symbicort contains a combination of budesonide and formoterol. Budesonide is a locally acting steroid that reduces inflammation in the respiratory tract. Formoterol is a bronchodilator that relaxes muscles in the airways to improve breathing. It is a better combination when compared to using Salbutamol alone, as it is just has bronchodilator action. Hence, kindly continue with the medications as prescribed for time being. Later on, depending on the response, appropriate dosage can be adjusted. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
