Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 63 yrs.old and my doctor prescribed Seroquel 25mg to me. He did not say why so I looked it up and found that it treats schizophrenia. My mother had it when she was alive but never received any medication. I have always been extremely confident and intelligent until now. I can tell that something is wrong with me because I don t act like I had previously. It seems as if I am no longer the person I had been. I quit taking the medication because it made me very sleepy during the day (I took it in the morning). What should I do? I am intending to call for an appointment with a psychologist. Should I? And should I get back on my medication and just take it at night? I do drink two glasses of Moscato in the evening though,
Yes, Seroquel is the right (although not the only) medicine for schizophrenia. I understand how you feel and know it's quite frightening for you to experience strange thoughts and behaviors. Continue with your medication as prescribed by your doctor.
I also strongly agree with you on a visit to a clinical psychologist as schizophrenia is best treated with a combination of drugs and psychotherapy.
