Is Sotalol Or Sotalol-AF Advisable For Upper Heart Rhythm Problem?
My cardiologist has prescribed Sotalol for rhythm problems of my upper heart (A-Fib). But the information sheet that came from pharmacy with the medicine says that Sotalol AF (not Sotalol) is the medicine for the upper heart rhythm problem. Is the prescription incorrect?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
Sotalol and Sotalol-AF (AFib) are beta-blockers used to treat irregular heartbeats, including atrial fibrillation (AFib). Sotalol-AF is a specific formulation of sotalol that is specifically indicated for the treatment of AFib. If your cardiologist prescribed sotalol for your rhythm problem, it's possible that they intended for you to take the Sotalol-AF formulation.
It's important to confirm with your cardiologist if the prescription was intended to be Sotalol-AF or if it was a mistake. Also, it's always important to read the information sheet that comes with the medicine, and if you have any doubts or concerns, please consult with your healthcare provider.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
