Is Sudafed,an Effective Drug For Sinusitis?

Hi, last week I was on antibiotics for a week, taking 3 a day, for a blocked sinus I had for 2 weeks. I'm finished the antibiotics but my sinus still seems to be blocked and I'm still getting pain and dizziness from it. I was hoping not to have to take more antibiotics as I'm going on holiday, would sudafed tablets work or should I go back to my doctors?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that blocked nose with a recent history of having sinus infection or sinusitis seems to be due to lingering infection only and as there seems that you have mucous accumulation in the nostrils that is leading to blocked nose..

At times if infection is severe you need a longer course of antibiotics along with decongestants and mucolytics..

You should consult your treating doctor again and get evaluated as taking Sudafed alone will give you temporary relief and a cur for infection is a must for permanent cure..

You can be advised another course of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, decongestants like Pseudoephadrine, do saline nasal irrigation, steam inhalation and use a humidifier in your room..
You can also be advised decongestant nasal sprays containing Xylometazoline or Oxymetazoline..
Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
Do warm compresses around nostrils..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
