Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Surgery The Solution For Basal Joint Arthritis?
I have basal joint arthritis and have signed on for surgery. He will remove the trapezium entirely and stitch a repair without harvesting a tendon and packing the area with it. I have had pain for about six years. It is not unbearable and I can use my hand still. I am worried about the mobility and use of my hand after the surgery. I am told it must be stabilized for two weeks after which I can begin moving it. PT starts in four weeks. I am a cyclist and I am moving my household in the spring. I am nagged about the outcome of the surgery and wake up wondering if surgery is the right decision for me.
