Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is TSH Level Of 4.85 With The Normal Range Or Needs Medical Intervention?
I have a family history of hypothyroidism. Both of my parents take medication. I had my TSH level drawn in November 2016 and it was 2.8. I had it drawn today and it was 4.85. I dont take medication for hypothyroidism. I had it checked because I have gained 20 pounds since April (2 months) and am having heart flutters. My doctor states that I am within normal range. I am thinking of going elsewhere since I am on the higher end and am having symptoms. Would you agree?
As per your history, 4.85 value of TSH is normal, no need to start medications. Kindly consult with a physician to rule out other causes of weight gain.
You may require an ultrasound abdomen and pelvis. treatment mainly depends upon the underlying conditions.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
