Is Tamoxifen Effective In Preventing Breast Cancer?

I am Bracca1 positive. My family has a long history of breast cancer. I have had a hysterectomy and bilateral masectomy. 2 of my 4 daughters tested positive. The oldest is 45 and dealing with breast cancer now. The other is 36 and weighing her options, Would it be beneficial for her to take Tamoxifen or is it too late?

Hello,

BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation can have a 45 – 65% chance of being diagnosed with breast cancer before age 70. People with BRCA1 mutations are more likely to develop triple negative breast cancer. Triple negative breast cancer does not respond to hormone therapy or certain drugs. However, chemotherapy may be more effective at treating triple negative cases than it is against other types of cancer. So prophylactic surgical methods are more beneficial than drugs. Please consult your oncologist he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
