Is Taxim The Right Medication For Bacterial Urine Infection In A Child?
My daughter who will soon be 7 years old was suffering from stomach pain and was identified with bacterial presence in the urine. She had no other peoblems like fever, diarrhea or vomiting; only stomach pain. The doctor prescribed her Taxim O forte for 5 days on 12 hours gap with 3.5 ml dosage. Today is the third day; not only is she suffering from constipation, it is difficult for her to eat or drink and besides she has also developed itching inside her palm and feet . Meanwhile the urine culture result shows . Doctor says this is not at all serious and very insignificant, but still insists to continue taxim o forte for 5 days. With the side effect of itching and constipation and no desire to eat and drink; shall I stop the taxim o forte after 3 days? Or atleast reduce the dosage if that would help? Thank you doctor! Sophia

Kindly follow the advice of your doctor as all this could be due to a viral infection which subsides itself by a week.
However, since she is a child look out for red small rashes. Since there is even itching it could be due to a viral origin.
The antibiotics have been given to prevent any kind of secondary bacterial infections.
Continue the treatment for 5 more days as well as follow up with the doctor. No need to reduce the dose as she should mandatorily finish the antibiotic course.
Make her drink good amounts of warm fluids to maintain electrolyte balance.
