Is Tetralysal Safe To Be Taken During First Trimester Of Pregnancy?
i am taking tetralysal 300mg twice a day for 4 days now. Do i have to stop taking the said antibiotic once I found out that i am preganant? If ever I am pregnant, I believe i am on my( 1st trimester 1 or 2 weeks ) is the unborn baby still safe or she s already in danger of having deformities?
Hi Tetralysal and other cycline antibiotics are contraindicated in pregnant. In animal studies, they have been known to be teratogenic even though not proven in humans. However, for precautions, it is advisable to just avoid especially in the first trimester.Even in children below 8 years, it is advisable to avoid since cyclines colour their teeth. However, the risk and the benefits are always evaluated before prescription. In your case, i will advise you get a pregnancy immediately before interrupting the treatment. If the test comes positive, just discontinue the treatment and see your Doctor for an alternative antibiotic.A short duration of exposure will not harm the baby.If it comes negative, the you complete the treatment. Hope my answer will help you Best regards
