Is Tramadol Advisable While On Methadone?

Hi My names Leon and I m from New Zealand and would like to ask a question. Pretty much I m on The Methadone programme & have been for around five years, I m on a daily morning dose of 110mg. Today I went to a Doctor & He prescribed me some Tramadol for Tooth pain, I didn t really ask many questions about it but when I got Home I went on to internet to find out about it & read on some sites That taking Tramadol on Methadone can cause Instant withdrawl from The Methadone (which I m not really keen on!!) But I also heard from other People & Medical sites that taking Tramadol on Methadone doesn t cause withdrawls what so ever. So My question is Is it okay to take Tramadol while on The Methadone Programme without having to worry about Withdrawals and/or other adverse effects. Thanks, Kind Regards, Leon

Hello,

Tramadol and methadone are both opiates. Methadone is used to help withdrawal from opiates. On the other hand, taking tramadol together with Methadone is not recommended as it may cause withdrawal symptoms on patients that use Methadone.
