Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my husband has been given trazadone for being unable to stay asleep but everything I read says it s for depression. He has Parkinson s and takes Carba/leva dopa, and another. I ve taken anti depressants for years so am familiar with many so am concerned about this med for him. I took it years ago and felt very sluggish so stopped. I take Cymbalta for dep and fibro now. I take Ambien for sleep which I consider to be much better but his PD Dr says it s addictive, yet my Dr told me it isn t tho I could become dependant so I take 1/2 tablet but not every night. Why do you think my husband s Dr preferred Trazadone. He doesn t need to feel sluggish as his med makes him sleepy in the afternoon already. At night he just can t stay asleep.
Trezadone is not a right medicine for insomnia. It is primarily used as an antidepressant and anti-anxiety. Contact your psychiatrist for further evaluation and management.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
