Is Trazodone Tablet The Right Medicine For Sleep Disorders And Anxiety?

I was prescribed trazodone to start at three tablets a day to overcome severe sleep problems arising from anxiety about personal affairs since wife died a year and half ago. I am also taking Percocet for pain in knees and back. After taking trazodone I slept through one night for first time in three years. The day following that first night I remained drowsy, confused or unable to concentrate and had diarhia throughout the whole day and I did not take any trazodone. Could it first day reaction or combination of drugs or something else?

I can understand your concern. Trazodon is a relatively safe drug and the drug is commonly used for sleep induction associated with depression. In some individuals when the drug is started the drug cause diarrhoea and in most cases the side effects go by 1-2 weeks. To prevent this the drug should be started with low doses and dose escalation is done in about 1-2 weeks. If the diarrhoea is very troublesome then visit your doctor for reevaluation. For some days along with Trazodon the drugs like Benzodiazepines can be used for sleep induction. Clonazepam, Lorazepam etc can help in good sleep. Visit your doctor for prescription.
