Is Triamcinolone Acetonide The Right Medicine For Shingles?
Yes I have had shingles for almost 3 weeks had pills for the first five day took five a day and ointment from the the Dr. they have dried up but they still hurt like they are on fire and tingle they are in the same places that I first got them they have not spread, but what can I put on them so the pain is so hurtful he gave me triamcinolone acetonide cream.
Triamcinolone is a steroid which acts by suppressing the immune system, hence effective in treating pain and other symptoms which result from exaggerated immune response, and shingles is not one of those. In fact, supressing the immune system may worsen shingles.
Hence, triamcinolone is not appropriate for shongles. I wouls suggest other topical analgesics such as capsaicin patch which is the analgesic of choice in the treatment of shingles. Drugs like pregabalin also help to relieve the pain.
I hope I have answered your question,.
Please don't hesitate to get back to me if you have more questions.
Best wishes.
