Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my baby is 8 months old and recently diagnosed and detected a VSD of 9.5 mm . his weight is 5 kg and opposes in feeding and has very low growth rate . doctors saying vsd closure surgery is the only way out but they are worried about the low weight . please suggest me what to do
don not worry .there are other option like closure of the defect with medication but sometime can lead to cardiac failure.other option is interventional cardioologist who can plug the hole with intervention with very minimal surgery.
I'm sure that the doctor has given you sound advise. Please consult an interventional pediatric cardiologist as well and see if VSD can be closed without a major surgery. This reduces the risk associated with a major cardiac surgery If not, then the surgery can be performed in a center with intensive care back up for pediatric cardiac surgery.
