Hello is valsartan 80 mg a proper medication for a 93 year old patient? I was just getting a list of my mothers medications. In 2015 she was on150 mg of Diovan for high blood pressure and now they put her on 80mg of valsartan. She is complaining about a pain in her side which I see can be a side effect of valsartan. Over the years she has been very over medicated ... she is also currently on Simvastatin 89 mg, coreg 12.5, amitiza 24 mcg methenamine hipp 1gm ...baby asprin... Thank you for your assistance
Hi Valsartan is just the generic name of Diovan. Apparently they have stepped down the antihypertensive dose which means your mother's BP is probably under control. It is an ARB and is usually associated with less side effects.
Your mother's arm pain is probably something else and if it's very much bothering I suggest you to go visit your physician. It could be simple muscular pain, if it's mild to moderate degree you can just get her a topical antiinflammatory cream such as diclo gel or ibuprofen gel and apply it SOS along with warm compresses.
Hope this helps.
Regards
