Hi, Verapamil and Amitriptyline do interact with each other. Verapamil in itself is safe but it alters amitryptiline metabolism and increase its effect. So for the same dose you may have a more pronounced effect of amitriptyline and experience more amitryptiline adverse effects such as sleepiness, dry mouth, hypotension. As for how Verapamil will help it is a common medication used for migraine prevention (like amitriptyline). I do not see why you have to take them both though. If amitriptyline is deemed as ineffective for migraine prevention I would interrupt it to try Verapamil, not use both medications (unless the neurologist thinks it has other benefits other then migraine prevention).
