Is Vitamin-C Supplements Advisable After Using Proton Pump Inhibitor?
Hi, I am suffering from acute gastritis ( started about 4 days ago and ended up in emergency) due to over aggressive treatment of pericarditis (which started while overseas -about two weeks ago - got treated there with high doses of ibuprofen) -currently on proton pump inhibitor for gastritis and Panadol for pericarditis - trying to eliminate foods that increase the pain ( only started getting relief last day or two) . Now I have contracted a cold on top of all - so my question: is it safe for me to take chewable vitamin c after I have taken the proton inhibitor and eaten? Really don t want to aggrevate the pain again but also want to boost my (somewhat tired) immune system :)
It is not advisable to take these two medications together. >To be more effective in suppressing the stomach acid production, the proton pump inhibitors should be taken orally 30 to 60 minutes before breakfast or any other meal of the day. Vitamin-C supplements may be taken at least one hour after taking the proton pump inhibitors.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
