Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m have anxiety problems and I m taking xanax .5 mg, 3 times a day. Due to a lot of stress taking care of my spouse who has alzheimer s disease, I am now unable to sleep at night. A few years ago, my doctor prescribed me some Restoril as a sleeping pill but last week the doctor that I saw at a walking clinic prescribed me some Zopiclone, because she said that it was not recommended to take Restoril and Xanax together. My mouth has been very dry since I started Zopiclone, while I didn t have any side effects when I was taking Restoril. Is it true that I shouldn t take Xanax & Restoril together even if I do not take them at the same time? Thank you.
The main possible interaction of this combination is an increase in sedation.
These agents work together to cause increased drowsiness. They are in the same class of drug, benzodiazepines. This class of medication can cause tolerance (more and more of the medication is needed over time) and also dependence, so you would need to be careful of these issues as well.
I hope this helps
