Is Zolpidem Extended-release An Effective Medication For Insomnia?
Hi. I have been on Ambien CR 12.5 mg to sleep at night in the past. and it worked very well. since over the last two years I have been receiving the generic zolpidem er 12.5 mg and it does not work. I have called every pharmacy to see if they have Ambien CR 12.5 mg in stock and most of them say no. Can you tell me why the zolpidem doesn't work at all but the brand name Ambien did?
never mind. I didn't know you had to pay for the question. thanks anyways
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
yes Zolpidem extended-release an effective medication for insomnia. But it should be used by prescription of a medical practitioner. Using zolpidem over long period of time can cause dependance on the drug. Actually zolpidem is good for initiation of sleep because it has short half life of about 3 hours. whereas its extended release helps in maintainance of sleep. So the generic medicines must have zolpidem in regular release form & they didnt work well. In extended release tablets or capsules the drug is slowly released so thus regular blood level of drug is maintained over large time span.
Hope this information helps
