Is Zyprexa The Right Medicine For Schizophrenia?

Hi there! My mother has been diagnosed with schizophrenia. Doctor had put her on Zeprexa 5 mg overnight. But today after having her only second 5 mg dosage, she can t sleep. As soon as she sleeps, she wakes up with a negative thought. She has never shown such a symptom before. I am really worried. Only second dose of Zeprexa is having a negative effect on her thought process. Please help. Really worried!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Zyprexa is widely prescribed for schizophrenia. However, in some individuals it can cause similar symptoms as you have mentioned.

In that case alternative drugs must be started. Consult a psychiatrist and he will direct you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
