Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am having a hissing sound in one ear off and on. I have had a lengthy cold or allergic reaction. Was told to take cold medicine and allergy medication. Took cold medicine for five days and have been taking Zyrtec for two weeks now. The hissing sound began yesterday. Should I continue until the spring blooming season gets better.
There is a possibility that you have fluid in the ear that is leading to hissing sound in the ear. Other cause can be an ear infection or inflammation or perforation of the eardrum.
So my suggestion is to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like otoscopy can help in ruling out the exact cause of the symptoms.
A course of antibiotics like Augmentin can be advised along with decongestant nasal drops. Also, avoid excessive water exposure to ears and sudden exposures to loud sounds.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
