Is A Colonoscopy Allowed For A 34-year-old With Symptoms Of Colon Cancer?
My son is in prison in we. He has symtoms of colon cancer or polyps:. The dr at the facility says he is too young to order a colonoscopy because there insurance will not pay. He is 34 years old. I will gladly pay for the test privately. Can the ignore this situation and not be liable? We do has a family history of polyps and hemorrhoid. His father had stage1 colon cancer. He is 68. Please help!!!
Colonoscopy is a routine examination in men over 50 years of age for colon cancer. In some patients with family history of colon cancer or familial colon polyposis the colonoscopy can be indicated at much earlier ages so it is not the age that determines the need for it.
If a first grade relative had colon cancer he should have the colonoscopy at least 10 years earlier from the age of the relative that had cancer. In certain familial polyposis colonoscopy can be started as early as 25 years of age. You will need to talk to the doctor on the risks he has but especially if he has symptoms colonoscopy is indicated.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
