Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was recently in the hospital because I started to hyperventilate. My doctors say it was because I had an anxiety attack but I honestly dont believe them because I ve never had anxiety, but here recently I have had really bad stomach pains and I feel like every time I eat I m going to throw up. I had a follow up with my doctor and she did and ultra sound and she found out that my common bile duct was only 1mm (it s supposed to be about 4mm) my question is what could be causing this?
Thank you for posting at HCM. Hyperventilation can be due to anxiety, but I will believe you that it was not if you are experiencing said symptoms. What you are experiencing is a bile duct obstruction which can be due to multitude of reasons, most common of them is gall stones. CBD being 1 mm, points to an inflammation which further strengthens by diagnosis. Status of liver, gall bladder and bile ducts can be easily pointed out to support diagnosis in a USG and CT scan. In such cases we usually advise our patients to go for USG Abdo, Lipid Profile, LFT, KFT, Sr Lipase, Sr Amylase to confirm diagnosis. To relieve CBD obstruction if any, we can perform an OPD procedure both diagnostically and therapeutically called ERCP or we can also do Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy to relieve symptoms.
We suggest seeing a surgeon for this if the symptoms persist.
