hi mam, depot injection of medroxyprogesterone acetate is a good option.it works very effectively for 15 weeks and if necessary, you can go for another dose after 3 months.the advantages are
1)single shot works for 3months so better compliance.
2)no complications as with barrier methods like vaginal bleeding, pain etc.
3)very effective.
drawbacks:
1)with prolonged use I.e; every 3 months for more than 1yr, may cause weight gain, menstrual disturbances.
2)fertility may not be immediately resumed after the last injection when taken for prolonged periods.
3)there is evidence of decrease in bone mineral density with long term use especially in teenagers.
4)symptoms of depression have also been reported.
let me conclude by saying that all the above adverse effects occur only with prolonged use and not with a single shot.so,you can comfortably go for an injection ofDMPA.hope my explanation clarifies all your doubts.any other clarifications if needed, please let me know.its my pleasure to guide you.all the best.thank you.take care.bye.
