Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is A Cyst Shown In PET Scan Post Recovery From Breast Cancer A Cause For Concern?
I AM A 1 YEAR SURVIVOR OF BREAST CANCER AT AGE 40, STAGE 2b WITH LYMPH NODE INVOLVEMENT. I RECENTLY HAD A PET SCAN AND THEY NOTICED A 7 CM CYST WHICH WASN T THERE A YEAR AGO. I AM ON TAMOXIFEN NOW THAT CHEMO AND RADIATION ARE COMPLETED. MY QUESTION IS: SHOULD I BE CONCERNED? WOULD THE OB/GYN USUALLY RECOMMEND SURGERY TO REMOVE OVARIES AT THIS SIZE AND WITH THE HISTORY I HAVE?
Thank you for the concern. Any cyst in the PET scan may be cancer or infection. And according to history it was not present before 1 year so you must immediately consult the OB/Gyn and there are more chances of surgery with the history you have.
