Is A Delay In Periods After Taking Emergency Contraceptive Pills Normal?
hi, im cathy, i have problem with my periods, i had my last periods 27 aug. after that on 5 sep i have a very secure relation ship with my friend after that with in one hour i took ECP tablet which was not required actually. and now its 2nd nov but my periods are not yet. i get Beta HCG pragnancy test 2 days before that is less than 1. but i dont know why my periods are so late ?? can you answer me ??
The delay can be caused by various conditions like thyroid disorders, stress, anemia, weight changes, medications including contraceptive pills, and PCOD. It is less likely that a single dose of emergency contraceptive pill alone delayed periods. The chances of pregnancy are slim considering your beta HCG results. I would suggest you visit a GP to get examined and undergo tests like thyroid profile, ultrasound abdomen and pelvis, and complete blood picture to diagnose the underlying cause of delay in periods.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ayesha Shareef, General & Family Physician
