Is A Fibroid Cyst The Cause For Chronic Pelvic Pain?

I have a lot of pelvic pain and have been seeing doctors now for about a year. I have a fibroid cyst that has grown a bit 1.5 cm to 2.5 cm. I have went on birth control about 2 months ago and no change in the pain. Could the fibroid cause the pain? it is posterior wall of uterus. I am 48 and starting to go through the change and am now experiencing 15 day to 50 days between periods. Have skipped a couple all together. feel horrible all the time and the pain on right and left side of groin is very painful especially during my cycle. What can be done to help with the pain? Is there a procedure?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

While the fibroid is pretty small it can still cause pain. There is a procedure that can be done in some cases to remove the fibroid.

Usually if a woman can make it to menopause the fibroids regress and no longer cause problems. If you are in a lot of discomfort see a gynecologist to discuss a myomectomy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
