My 2 year old hit his forehead on a step almost 2 weeks ago. We took him to his pediatrician and she said everything was fine and the swelling and bruising would go away in a few weeks. Well, the swelling and the bruising is gone, but there is a knot on his forehead that still has not gone away. Is that normal?
I can understand your concern. It is good that your son has almost recovered from head injury.
The knot usually subsides in 2 weeks or decreases significantly in size. If it is still persisting or increasing in size, cause could be : Persistent hematoma means blood collection still persisting. It can be felt as fluid like feeling. Usually painful but no fever, shiny skin.
Treatment includes observation or surgical drainage if large in size/calcified hematoma. You have to consult doctor for management.
: Abscess - It occurs in collected blood due to infection. It presents as fever, painful swelling, shiny skin, redness.
Treatment includes surgical drainage and antibiotic course like Co-amoxyclav therapy. Consult surgeon for it.
Hope it will help you. Thanks. Take care.
