Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is A Huge Difference Between Systolic And Diastolic Dangerous?
My mom s blood pressure is currently 123 over 62. Is it dangerous to have such a large delta between systolic and diastolic? She is also experiencing intense pain on her left side, no tightness in her chest or lightheadedness though. Her father had many strokes and heart attacks before he died.
Blood pressure 123/62 is perfectly normal for the age. A gap between systolic and diastolic BP is perfectly normal and natural. Her chest pain can be a stable angina, and should not be neglected. Keeping the fact in mind you have history of strokes and heart attacks in your family.
Hence I would like to suggest you initially few basic tests of cardiology to rule out angina in her case. 2D echo is required to see blood supply of heart, and tread mill test to see if blood supply is maintained during stress also.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
You have not mentioned the age of you mother, smoking and alcoholic habits are also not specified. The reading of 123/62 is perfectly normal blood pressure unless patient is symptomatic, but if she is having left sided pain I would suggest you to go for some base line tests for cardiology like 2d echo, and tread mill test. Any gross ischemia to cardiac muscles will be reflected in it. However it can be muscular pain also. Once cleared from cardiac side she can take diclofenac for few days.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Ramesh Kumar
