Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is A Large Polyp In The Cecum Considered A Serious Medical Condition?
I have been diagnosed with a colon polyp about the size of a nickel in the cecum. Is this considered large? The doctor could not remove it during a regular colonoscopy because of either where it was or because it was attached to the lining so I will need to go for a consultation to find out what the next step is. I was told it was not cancerous. I m not sure if he took a biopsy. I m just trying to find out what to expect.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood the concerns. Large polyp in colon, cecum being part of colon is definitely a dangerous one and needs complete excision and biopsy and follow up colonoscopies to see if another ones develop later or not. Since you do not know whether biopsy was taken or not, it is mandatory to have an opinion of a Gastro SUrgeon or an Oncosurgeon and have further plan of management under their guidance. A CT scan is also mandatory to be done as well as blood tests for tumor markers and other tests as may be needed like PET CT scan and so on. This has to be taken seriously unless proved otherwise without wasting more time.
