Is A Lung Transplant Recommended In Elderly Bronchitis Patients?
yes I am a 65 year old male and have bronchitis which is getting worse fevers, tired, on antibiotics, and use a chest wave machine I am thinking of having a lung transplant do you think I am to old or what other obsticles do I face my quality of life is very low
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern. Treatment of Chronic bronchitis depends on the cause. If you are smoker, smoking should be stopped. Avoid exposure to inhaled irritants, air pollution & stay away from others who have a cold or the flu to prevent the spread of infection. As there is no cure, treatment is aimed at reducing symptoms. In advance cases bronchodilator inhalers, nebulizer treatments, corticosteroids (inhaled and oral) & antibiotics are prescribed. Severe cases/ Untreatable cases of Chronic bronchitis may require Lung transplant. If you are non- diabetic, heart pumping is good & you are not having any other major health problem, Lung transplant can be done in your case.
Refer to a Pulmonologist for consultaion
