Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is A Pacemaker Necessary For The Treatment For Atrial Fibrillation?
I have AFib for 18 years with no problem with proper medication. My doctor recommends a pacemaker due to one EKG. Should I ask for another EKG before proceeding with this procedure. I one IKG enough? Is one EKG enough to recommend a Pacemaker?
After going through your query I understand your concern.
I would like to tell you that The only indication to put a pacemaker in a patient with atrial fibrillation is bradycardia, otherwise pacemaker don't provide additional benefit in atrial fibrillation. Pacemaker can be considered if you have symptomatic bradycardia or sick sinus syndrome.
Kindly consult with your cardiologist regarding this.
Hope to have been Helpful.
Kind Regards Dr. Navneet Bansal
