Is A Painless Bulge Noticed Below The Buttocks A Cause For Concern?

After going to the bathroom, urinating only, as I walked away, I felt a bulge in my pants above my anis. It is not at or near my anis. It is in the opposite direction from my vagina but not as high as the upper fold where my buttocks meets. It was like a big wad of toilet paper had been left there. When I got home I went and checked to see if somehow something had gotten stuck or bunched up... And as I felt the area, realized there was a bulge in the skin in that area... Not a boil but a bulge. It is not sore at all... It now seems to have reduced... Maybe it is some sort of internal hernia though I was not straining at all... And haven t. I have no problem with bowel movements and have not recently lifted anything heavy. Any comments? Thanks you in advance for your considerations.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

At this area, it may indicate several issues and most common are a pilonidal cyst or perianal abscesses.

These are inflammatory processes in sacral and perianal area usually manifested with pain, redness, swelling, fever and pus discharge. Cellulitis is less common and may be present in the sacral area as well.

This is mostly caused by beta hemolytic streptoccocus and it necessitates antibiotic treatment with augmentin, or combination of ciprinol+ metronidazole.

You should also, apply cold compresses, take nonsteroid painkillers such as Ibuprofen and rest. If there is no improvement within 2 days, you should see a doctor and have intravenous antibiotics.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
