Is A Painless Varicocele On Left Side A Cause For Concern?
Hi I have a varicocele on left side, causes no pain. I am 24 and not looking to have kids yet but would like to in next 4-6 years. GP told me 3 times to not worry about it and if problems arise when trying to conceive can look into surgery. Is this good advice or should I push to see urologist? I have read approx 80% of men with varicocele can father children no problem without treatment, is this accurate? Thanks
Hello and welcome to HCM, It is true that men with varicocele can father children. Varicocele is abnormal dilatation of veins around the testis. This abnormal dilatation of veins can impair sperm production. No medical treatment is available for varicocele. A regular follow up with assessment of the testis is required. You may consult an urologist for clinical assessment of the testis. Definitive treatment is surgical correction of varicocele. Time of surgery depends on state of testis. In case there is impairment of testis in any way, immediate surgical correction is required. Thus, please start your follow ups for prevention permanent damage to testis.
