Is A Persistent Bruise On Buttocks A Cause For Concern?

Hello, For several months I have had a bruise on my buttocks from, I think, excessive (90 min. day, 5 days each week) riding my exercise bike. I guess it is destined to be a permanent bruise so long as I use the exercise bike. There is no pain but is there any health danger from having a permanent bruise like this? Thank you for your answer. Ron

Hello,

You should limit riding your exercise bike if it is causing bruise. Since you are getting a permanent bruise you should be concerned. Permanent bruise may cause the skin to thicken, it can trigger nerve damage in the area affected. It can cause muscle trauma or injury. Muscle damage may be permanent. Sometimes, hematoma gets formed which need to be drained and treated with antibiotics and analgesics. You can avoid these complications by limiting riding exercise bike so that there is no more increase of bruise.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
