Is A Pregnancy With History Of External Placenta Abruption A High Risk One?
Yes, I m a little over 12 weeks pregnant, and had a baby about 6 months ago for an external placenta abruption that became an emergency and born c-section. He was born with no complications but passed away 4 months later from SIDS. I am not pregnant with my second child and wasn t sure of my risks of an abruption occurring again. I was told not to worry that the likely hood of it happening again is rare. Is this true? And I m currently being treated as a normally pregnancy because of this, should I be considered High Risk? I m really afraid of it happening again. Also note, with my previous pregnancy I was also hospitalized previously for polynepheitis and was extremely enemic.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern. External placenta abruption is not likely to repeat provided the poly nephritis has been treated & cured completely / blood pressure is normal/ there is no smoking habit/ there is optimum Hb% percent .. SID is not likely to be repeated . So don't worry. a good pregnancy check up & care would take to to a normal pregnancy & delivery. Thanks.
