Is A Smear Test Required After Removing Cervix, Uterus And Left Ovary?
Hi i have my yearly exam coming up in Oct and i m kinda confused as to why i m still having a pap smear when i don t even have my cervix, uterus, or left ovary..Could someone plz answer this or would i need to talk to my Dr about this and see if she could answer the question for me..
Your doctor may call you for a routine smear test if you had a partial hysterectomy (when the uterus is removed but you have the lower end (cervix) of the uterus). You can re-check your medical documents regarding which type of hysterectomy you had undergone.
If you had a total (full) hysterectomy done(cervix has been removed & those cells are gone) then you do not need to get smear testing done. Connect this clinically with your symptoms.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
