Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is A Soft Lump On The Head Of An Infant Post A Fall A Cause For Concern?
My 6 month old baby fell from my bed (approximately 3ft high). She cried immediately, calmed down after a minute or so and has been acting like her normal self. I ve spoken with an aftercare nurse at the doctors office and they told me to watch her and access for any changes. However, I m concerned about the soft lump (approximately the size of a half dollar) that has developed on the side of her head, an inch or two above her ear? Should I panic?
Lump after fall can be due to swelling of soft tissue after trauma. It can be due to hematoma formation. Hematoma is formed due to collection of blood after injury.
Soft tissue swelling and hematoma both resolve after couple of days. However, if there is headache, vomiting, altered behavior then you need to consult your primary healthcare provider for clinical assessment and CT scan of head.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri
