Is A Spinal Spasm An Indication Of A Herniated Disc?

I just had back surgery in December...A officiating on L4 L5....that was the second surgery in 2.5 years...A revision. A few days ago it started to seize up in that area...I have been taking naproxen but it hasn t gone away. Could it have already herniated again..I don t recall doing anything to cause that? Thanks in advance

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that there is herniation but the pain may also be due to muscle spasm of one or more of the muscles in the back.

This would cause tightness or a sensation as though the area has seized up as you mentioned.
Adding a muscle relaxant to the naproxen may help.

Eg of muscle relaxants are baclofen, soma, flexeril etc

The use of a warm compress to the area may also help as well.

If there is no relief then you may need to see your doctor for assessment
I hope this helps
