Is A Surgery Effective In The Treatment Of Knee Arthritis?

I am a custodian and almost two years ago I fell and my right knee took the blow. It swelled up, bruised and went numb. I didn t have the knee checked to see if a damaged it because with the numbness I had no pain and even stairs no problem. I loved it. My knee seems to be swollen bigger than the other knee for good. I just started feeling pain in the knee again and I can t do my job. I can t walk for long or do stairs. Will be getting fired this week. Cortisone didn t touch the pain. I read that surgery on arthritic knees doesn t help. I have no skills for a sit down job. My life is over because of this. Will surgery even help.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

After doing a MRI of the knee or arthroscopy the orthopedic will tell you if can go on surgery. As a Rheumatologist I have lot of patient with RA who has done knee surgery and are very well after.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Note: For further queries, consult a joint and bone specialist, an Orthopaedic surgeon. Book a Call now.
